Victorian Minister for the Aviation Industry, Gordon Rich-Phillips announced funding for Stage One of the Bendigo Airport upgrade this morning.

The government will provide $300,000 to upgrade operational facilities including sealing two taxiways as part of a total $5 million committment from the Regional Aviation Fund.

“For too long, regional aviation infrastructure development has lagged, stifling the delivery of satisfactory air services for our regions. This is certainly the case here in Bendigo, where there is a demand for access by larger aircraft, however the outdated infrastructure means services are restricted to small aircraft,” Rich-Phillips said.

“The Victorian Government recognises that investment in our regional aviation infrastructure is essential.

“We’re keen to see regional communities continue to benefit from the important contribution that regional airports make to their communities, in areas including tourism and air freight, through to essential emergency services.”

Bendigo airport is a GA hub for aviation services including flight training, aircraft maintenance and charter flight operations. The airport is also the nominated base for the Department of Environment and Primary Industries and the Country Fire Authority.
