Queensland operator Becker Helicopter Services has won the 2013 Telstra Queensland Medium Business of the Year award.
The announcement was made at an awards dinner this week.
Mike and Jan Becker launched Becker Helicopter Services in 1995 at Noosa. The business is now an internationally-ecognised training facility employing 70 people and operating 18 helicopters. The awards judges were impressed by its efforts to overcome adversity to bring night vision goggles to Australia and the ability to bring overseas service personnel into Australia, helping to create local business.
Being the first civilian helicopter training academy to offer Advanced Night Vision Goggles training, which had previously been the domain of military aviators, has been critical to securing multi-million dollar international contracts.
