Applications for scholarships and awards made available by the AWPA are open now for 2013.

Collectively the scholarships are worth over $60,000.

They aim to assist (mostly women) pilots in furthering their aviation skills and careers.

Also open for nominations are several awards and trophies that acknowledge and reward excellence in aviation endeavours.

In encouraging women young and old to further their skills and training, the scholarships are vital to continuing the vision of AWPA founder Nancy-Bird Walton.

Airservices Australia continues to support AWPA with the provision of its highly sought-after flight training scholarships valued at $8,000 each. Sponsorship by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) also enables AWPA to offer two training scholarships for young women, one of which is worth $7,000 to assist with the navigation component of a PPL(A).

The scope of the scholarships is huge! They provide assistance with:

  • theory training such as the AirBP-sponsored ATPL scholarship
  • RA-Aus training sponsored by Aero Refuellers
  • flight training from pre-GFPT stage
  • flight reviews, GFPT/PPL, ratings
  • attendance at an ATSB Human Factors course.

There are opportunities for all ages and experience levels. Most are available to pilots of fixed wing or rotary aircraft and there are also ballooning and gliding opportunities.

AWPA acknowledges the support it receives from both its membership and its sponsors in enabling this generous scholarships and awards portfolio.

Anyone interested in applying is urged to check for details and application forms at AWPA's website www.awpa.org.au. AWPA membership is a requirement for most of the scholarships and awards.

Most scholarship applications close January 31, 2013.
