Airservices has recognised three air traffic controllers for going ‘above and beyond’ in the profession of air traffic management on the International Day of the Air Traffic Controller.
David Horn (Karratha Tower), Mark Stevens (Gold Coast Tower) and Stephen Giles (Melbourne Centre), are this year’s recipients of a peer nomination program which will see them visit an international air navigation services provider as a professional development opportunity.
Today’s celebrations also saw Australia’s national provider of air traffic control, Airservices, acknowledge all controllers and operational staff for their continual commitment to the safe and efficient delivery of air traffic management services.
Airservices General Manager Air Traffic Control, Jason Harfield, said that controllers played a vital role in helping to keep the travelling public safe.
“Each and every day, our air traffic controllers work around the clock to provide a crucial service in helping the travelling public reach their destination safely and efficiently,” Mr Harfield said.
“Today is about recognising the efforts of all of our staff, and I would like to thank all of them for the job that they do in keeping our national airways system running smoothly and making air travel one of the safest modes of transport in the world.”
Airservices employs around 950 controllers who work from two major centres, four terminal control units and 28 towers around the country.
