A new flight training academy has opened for business at Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport near Toowoomba.

Federal Minister for Industry and Science Ian Macfarlane addresses full-time pilot and engineering students at Airline Academy of Australia (AAA) on 2 February.

AAA Group Managing Director Craig Duncan said the the airline industry is bursting with new opportunities for students.

“Over the next 20 years, 533,000 new commercial airline pilots and 584,000 new maintenance technicians will be needed to fly and maintain the world’s fleet,” he said.

“The expansion of the 100-year-old Airline Academy to Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport means we will continue to have the capacity to meet the needs of the ever-expanding aviation industry within the Asia-Pacific region.

“This is a rare opportunity for locals of all ages to see their aviation dreams become a reality,” he said.

The airport’s Wellcamp Aviation Education Precinct will provide professional pilot and aircraft maintenance engineering training and also house a permanent aircraft alongside a team of world-class instructors.

“Given the Academy’s long history in providing academic pathways to employment for students in regional areas, it was a natural progression to open the training facility at Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport and provide students with access to this state-of-the-art facility," Duncan said.

“With our unrivalled standards in training, conducive weather patterns and great landscape, Toowoomba and the Darling Downs will truly be put on the map as world leaders in aviation."
