The SAAA Freedom Formation Display Team has acknowledged the passing of its team manager, team member and friend, Eddie Seve, who died on Sunday 30 November 2025 at Wedderburn, New South Wales.
“Eddie was the very heart and soul of our team,” said team member Kevin White. “From chief instigator to prime motivator, from gatherer to consolidator, from sponsor-chaser to gig-securer, Eddie was behind it all, and in the doing he created a wake of enthusiasm so great that anyone who came into his presence had no option but to ride it in with him.
“In the air and on the ground, Eddie was a man of vast knowledge on a general aviation mission, to make the joy of flying so obvious, so appealing, so enticing, that everyone, especially young people, would fall in love with it and want to be involved,” White said.
Freedom Formation was founded in 2015 by a group of passionate aviators with a shared vision to create Australia's most impressive formation aerobatic display team. What started as weekend practice sessions between friends has grown into the largest Formation Aerobatic Display Team in the Southern Hemisphere.
The team said Eddie’s loss will be felt widely across general aviation, particularly in amateur-built, recreational, sport and airshow communities.
“Eddie was an outstanding human,” said team member Mark Newton. “A garrulous, friendly, smart, skilled, helpful and generous man, cut down too soon. I think I can speak for the whole team when I say it’s taken the air out of our sails. We’re really only just starting to get back into the saddle.”
In 2025, Freedom Formation supported the Temora Flyers Youth in Aviation event, a cause Eddie was passionate about. Eddie’s wife, Anne-Marie Seve, has asked that donations be made in Eddie’s memory to a fundraiser supporting next year’s Youth in Aviation event.

Newton said Eddie was central to many of the team’s proudest moments, including its early performance milestones and the approvals required for significant formation activities.
“Godspeed, Eddie. Resume own navigation, squawk 1200, frequency change approved,” Newton said.
