Textron said last week that it would eliminate its electric aviation division, folding all operations into other Textron divisions.
The company made the announcement in a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, saying Textron eAviation, which includes Pipistrel, would no longer exist as a separate division under the Textron banner.
"Under this realignment, a significant part of Textron eAviation, including Pipistrel, will become part of the Textron Aviation reporting segment to enable the business to more effectively leverage the development, manufacturing and sales expertise at Textron Aviation," the filing states.
"Further, Textron eAviation’s manned and unmanned products for military applications and related research and development activities will be included in the results of the Textron Systems reporting segment, which is best suited to provide more direct access to the targeted customer base for these products.
Textron acquired Slovenian manufacturer Pipistrel in 2022, using its expertise with electric power to form the basis of a new division, Textron eAviation. The eAviation division also included the Pipistrel Rotax-powered range as well as electric aircraft like the Alpha Electro and Velis Electro.
Textron eAviation also included the in-development Nexus eVTOL, which was not specifically mentioned in the filing.
Textron Aviation encompasses the Cessna, Beechcraft and McCauley brands, but does not include aviation operations Bell and Lycoming, which report to other Textron divisions.
