Coronavirus restrictions and a backlog of other inquiries have prevented any public hearings being scheduled into the senate general aviation industry inquiry.
The Senate Standing Committee into Regional and Rural Affairs and Transport (RRAT) self-referred the two-year inquiry in December 2019, with a final reporting date in November 2021.
An interim report was also due in December this year, which may now be put back thanks to the pandemic and other inquiries that are taking precedence.
"The RRAT Committee is still getting through dairy, shipping, trucking and reef regulations inquiries and they are still to confirm dates for the GA inquiry," a spokesperson for RRAT Chair Senator Susan McDonald told Australian Flying.
"Covid has thrown the whole schedule out and there’s a lot of work being done to sort it."
It appears the general aviation community has not been inspired by the thought of another inquiry, with only 19 submissions made to date and a prevailing feeling of "inquiry fatigue" being reported in the industry.
Terms of reference and details of submissions can be found on the RRAT inquiry webpage.
