General aviation pilots operating from Essendon Airport will have regional jets to contend with after JETGO Australia started its Melbourne-Dubbo route from there last Sunday.

Previously, the three-times-per-week service used Avalon as the Melbourne terminal, but moved to Essendon after new passenger screening equipment was installed to service JETGO's Embraer regional jets.

JETGO Australia’s Managing Director Airlines Paul Bredereck said “We are very excited about moving to Essendon Airport as it is such a fantastic iconic airport that will offer our customers so much more convenience.

“Essendon Airport has been fantastic to work with, constructing a temporary terminal to accommodate JETGO’s services while the heritage listed Essendon Airport Terminal is undergoing a $20M refurbishment."

JETGO will run flights to an from Dubbo on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays using 36-seat Embraer 135LRs.

JETGO joins Sharp Airlines and Free Spirit Airlines in running regional regular public transport operations to and from Essendon.
