Textron Aviation announced this week that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has certified the Cessna Citation Ascend executive jet.

The Ascend is the latest in the Cessna 560XL line, and type certification clears the way for first deliveries to customers.

“The Citation Ascend’s successful flight test program reflects our teams’ expertise in obtaining FAA certification while designing and delivering the best aviation experience for our customers,” said Chris Hearne, senior vice president, Engineering & Programs.

“We sought our customers’ feedback, and the result is a business jet that offers customers the latest innovations in performance, productivity and efficiency.”

The Ascend is powered by twin Pratt & Whitney Canada PW545D engines, which gives the 12-seat jet a maximum speed of Mach 0.75, a four-pax range of 1900 nm and a useful load of 3443 kg.

Avionics are Garmin 5000 and the aircraft also includes a Honeywell RE100 [XL] APU.

Cessna introduced the 560XL in 2000, and since more than 1000 airframes have been delivered, making it the most popular aircraft to carry the Citation brand.
