The Federal Government today released a call for tenders to implement new projects that support the aviation careers of women and girls.

Up to $2.9 million is on the table for suppliers that can deliver projects as part of the  Women in the Aviation Industry Initiative Strategic Action Plan.

"The department is calling on experienced suppliers to put in their bids for activities that will make a real difference for women already in the industry, those considering a career in our skies, as well as younger generations not yet fully aware of the possibilities," a press release from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communication and the Arts states.

"To be delivered under the successful Women in the Aviation Industry initiative, this funding will help support a strong and thriving aviation industry that attracts, trains and retrains women in an inclusive and respectful environment."

The tender documents stress three main priorities that potential suppliers will need to address:

  1. Leadership and culture: Tap into the power of leaders to drive change and to realise a culture of inclusion that promotes and supports diversity within the industry
  2. Visibility and awareness: Increase visibility and awareness of the aviation industry and the unique and diverse career opportunities it offers women
  3. Collaboration: Strengthen networks and collaboration across the aviation industry to drive innovation, share learning and optimise impact by aligning the industry’s efforts.

According to the tender, successful projects may include strategies to drive cultural change, innovative approaches to engage women and girls, research, survey and data analysis, community outreach, engaging partners with experience in reaching underrepresented groups, and joint activities.

Successful tenderers will need to deliver their program before 30 June 2026. Tender documents are available on the AusTender website and the tender will be open until 2.00 pm on 8 May 2024.
