Regular public transport services to Coffs Harbour will increase next month after the announcement that Fly Pelican will introduce direct services to and from Newcastle.

Fly Pelican starts the route on 17 October using 19-seat Jetstream 32 twin turbo-props.

“FlyPelican is very excited to be adding yet more routes to its network," said CEO Paul Graham. "Newcastle to Coffs Harbour is very well suited to our Jetstream 32 aircraft.

"The flight time is just under 50 minutes and we will be operating weekday services and a Sunday service providing an essential link between these city pairs.

"Discussions with Coffs Harbour Council and Newcastle Airport have been very positive and we are thrilled to be expanding our network and increasing capacity into both of these growing airports."

According to Graham, the key to making the route will be provide regular, reliable services with attractive fares, which will start at $99 per head one way.

Coffs Harbour Regional Airport manager Dennis Martin said they were "delighted to welcome the arrival of FlyPelican’s new services between Newcastle and Coffs Harbour. This new route provides the Coffs Coast with a valuable new travel link that will boost both leisure and business markets to the region."

Fly Pelican will run both ways on the route on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

QantasLink, Virgin Australian and Tiger Airways already operate into Coffs Harbour. The airport recorded over 20,000 movements in the 2015 calendar year, with nearly 6000 of those above 7 tonnes in weight.
