CEO Sleepout

Greg Hood, Chief Commissioner of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, is joining business, government and community leaders from around Australia to take part in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout tonight.

Around 100 CEOs in Canberra, including Brendan Nelson CEO of the Australian War Memorial and Frances Adamson Secretary Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, will gather at the National Museum of Australia, collect their 3 pieces of cardboard to sleep on, eat their soup and bread roll, and bed down on the lawns for the night. The forecast is for a frosty -2 degrees C.

The Sleepout aims to raise awareness and vital funds to support services for the thousands of men, women and children experiencing homelessness right across the country.  Nationally, nearly 3 million Australians are living in poverty  - with over 116,000 people experiencing homelessness in Australia. Sadly, the face of homelessness is not discriminatory with roughly 350 young adults aged between 12 and 24 not having a stable place to call home.

“I am humbled by the support I have been shown through sponsorship to help Vinnies provide assistance for the homeless,” Mr Hood told Australian Flying. "It is up to all of us to respond to homelessness and help the most vulnerable in our society from becoming another statistic."

Mr Hood is currently the number two fundraiser in the ACT, having raised over $17,000. Last year, he raised $68,060 as the number one fundraiser in the ACT.
