CASA has published a new eLearning module on performance-based navigation (PBN) to increase the awareness of the changes, requirements and benefits of satellite-enabled navigation.

All instrument flight rules aircraft operating in Australian airspace are required to be fitted with global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers for PBN.

Australia has moved from ground-based navaids to satellite systems which has introduced changes to navigation specifications and operational procedures that IFRĀ  pilots need to know.

CASA's PBN eLearning module provides an overview of the requirements of on-board navigation equipment and the navigation specifications that must be included in flight plans.

There is also information on the general requirements and links to relevant legislation.

CASA points out that, as comprehensive as it is, the eLearning module is not intended to replace any formal training requirement for pilots.

The PBN eLearning module can be accessed from the eLearning catalogue on the CASA website.
