US manfacturer Aspen Avionics has received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for its new range of Evolution MAX avionics.

Evolution MAX is the latest development in the Aspen series of retro-fit glass cockpit instruments and include several new features the company says stem from customer demands.

Offered in the Evolution 1000 PFD and the 1000 and 500 MFD products, the MAX series is approved via STC for over 600 aircraft types and includes:

  • GPS-aided Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS)
  • height AGL on navigation and terrain maps on MFD
  • METAR flags on MFD
  • altitiude intercept based on ROC
  • audio panel interface
  • faster refresh rates
  • font and window enlargement
  • 350-nm zoom levels on MFD.

All MAX series avionics can be installed as single, double or triple screen systems, but can't be intermixed with legacy Evolution products on the same panel.

The MAX system is also offered as an upgrade from legacy Aspen EFIS avionics, meaning aircraft owners can get the latest technology. Aspen's EFD1000 E5 EFIS can also be upgraded to a full TSO'd MAX standard.

"We’re not aware of any manufacturer in this industry that offers this type of upgrade program”, said John Uczekaj, president and CEO. “Our corporate philosophy from the time we introduced the Evolution 1000 PFD 12 years ago was to offer new functions and safety features our current customers could adopt affordably and, provide future owners the peace of mind that their investment is protected as technology evolves."

More information and package pricing on the Evolution MAX series is on the Aspen website.
