Bell's light single 505 Jetranger X recently clocked-up 400 customer deliveries since it was certified in 2017.

The milestone means that, on average, the company has shipped 80 airframes each year, with 100 of those coming since May of 2021.

The 400th airframe was delivered to Al Barratt of UK-based Cotswald Aviation last week.

"The Bell 505 is an incredible aircraft, and we are proud to celebrate the 400th delivery to Mr. Barratt,” said LaShan Bonaparte, Bell VP Commercial Sales. “The Bell 505 provides outstanding performance capabilities, modern avionics and a versatile cabin for our customers.

"This will be a great addition to Cotswold Aviation’s fleet.”

Although second in its class to Airbus Helicopters' legendary H125, the Bell 505 has proven successful in its market and fulfilled performance promises evident on its first flight in 2014.

In the period 2018-21, Bell shipped 329 505s compared with 442 deliveries of the H125. It is currently Bell's best-selling platform.

Initially dubbed the 505 SLS (short light single), the Jetranger X was designed to be a versatile platform that Bell said would be the easiest and safest helicopter to fly. It features Garmin G1000H avionics and a Safran Arrius FADEC turbine engine.

In March this year, Bell announced a project to introduce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to the 505.

Since certification, the Bell 505 has been operating on six continents in various roles from flight training to law enforcement, tourism, private transport and defence.

Australia currently has 11 Bell 505s on the civil register. The first one was delivered to Queensland operator Nautilus Aviation in February 2018.
