The University of Wollongong’s commercial arm, ITC Limited, has announced its purchase of Cessnock-based International School of Aviation Australia (ISAA).
While the university has been involved with the school, formerly known as Avondale College, for some time, ISAA Business Manager Nerrin Warr said the acquisition will help boost the professional pilot training scene in the Hunter Valley.
“We are thrilled that this acquisition has happened,” Warr said. “This acquisition strengthens our commitment to continue to provide pilot training opportunities within the local Hunter Valley community. It will save trainees the need to travel to the city to undertake pilot training and in the Hunter the airspace and training environments are just so much better.
“Pilot training has never been more in demand than it is right now, so we expect our school to grow quite significantly over the next year or so.”
Current ISAA Chief Flying Instructor Garry Fraser will continue in his role at ISAA, as will other key staff. ISAA has been located at Cessnock Aerodrome for more than three years, although the school has been operating as part of Avondale College since 1977. The school offers a range of private or commercial pilot training programs, charter flights and aerial photography.
ISAA is hosting an open day on Sunday November 21 which will consist of school tours, career guidance presentations, discussions with current staff and students, test flights and attendance from key personnel within the aviation industry. The open day will also include the official opening of a new hangar at Cessnock.
