Safety solutions provider Jeppesen has been certified by CASA to design, validate and maintain instrument flight procedures.

The certification, granted under CASR Part 173, authorises Jeppesen to create Performance Based Navigation (PBN) procedures such as Required Navigation Performance (RNP) Special Aircraft and Aircrew Authorisation Required (SAAAR) as well as conventional VOR, ILS and RNAV procedures.

In order to qualify for the certification, Jeppesen documented its capabilities and expertise for CASA by submitting multiple examples of each procedure type for which certification was sought and a review of training records and credentials documenting that Jeppesen’s procedure design staff meets CASA requirements for chief designers and acting chief designers.

“Certification from CASA allows Jeppesen to bring its expertise and comprehensive procedure design solutions to the Australian aviation market,” Sandy Stedman, vice-president, Government and Industry Affairs for Jeppesen, said. “CASA’s support and guidance were invaluable as we sought certification.”

Jeppesen is the only third-party provider certified to deliver both PBN and conventional procedures in Australia. With this certification, Jeppesen will design public procedures that improve access across the spectrum.

Access to underserved airports will be improved and, at the same time, availability of public use procedures will improve airspace system efficiencies at major airports throughout the country.

Jeppesen holds similar procedure design certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration, and has experience designing PBN and conventional procedures in other regions, including China, Taiwan, New Zealand and Panama. Jeppesen procedure design services are ISO 9001 certified.
