The General Aviation Manufacturers Association has released worldwide General Aviation aircraft delivery figures for the first nine months of 2011.
Through the first three quarters of 2011, GA aircraft deliveries dropped 9.8 per cent as compared to the same period last year, to a total of 1227 units. Industry billings fell 10.2 per cent, from US$13.5 billion to US$12.1 billion.
Piston-powered aircraft shipments totalled 577 units compared to 633 units delivered in the first nine months of 2010, an 8.8 per cent decrease. Turboprop shipments declined 5.9 per cent to 223 units in 2011, compared to 237 units during this same period in 2010. And business jet shipments totalled 427 units, a 13.0 per cent decrease as compared to 491 units delivered in the first nine months of last year.
“These shipments and billings numbers show some improvement over the sharper decline experienced in first half of 2011,” GAMA President and CEO Pete Bunce said. “However, considering the fragility of the economies in the traditional markets of North America and Europe, this is not the time for new, undue government burdens to be imposed on General Aviation.”
For the record, the Cessna C162 Skycatcher was the most delivered model in Q3 with 41 deliveries, followed by Cirrus with their SR22 with 26. So far this year, Cessna has by far delivered the most aircraft overall, with 424.
