CASA is seeking industry comment and feedback on a study into Class D tower airspace conducted by the Ambidji Group.

CASA has released details for comment on a study into Class D tower airspace conducted by the Ambidji Group.

The study was undertaken as an outstanding commitment of CASA’s Office of Airspace Regulation (OAR) as required by the 2007 Australian Airspace Policy Statement.

Covering Australia’s 10 Class D aerodromes, the study provides information on airspace regulation and oversight of providers of communication, navigation, surveillance and air traffic management services.

The objective of the study was to identify from specific NAS characteristics those elements which may deliver improvements at each of the 10 locations, with respect to access, environment, security, efficiency and safety, with the safety of passenger transport services being the overriding priority.

Excluded from the scope of the study was the need for a Cost Benefit Analysis or a quantitative risk analysis as this work will be undertaken separately after consideration of the study’s recommendations.

“CASA applies a precautionary approach when conducting aeronautical studies and therefore the following must be considered: the recommendations have yet to be accepted by CASA; and the recommendations may be modified as a result of stakeholder feedback,” the regulator said.

“Any decisions taken by CASA from the study’s recommendations will be considered in conjunction with current government direction and policy.”

Industry stakeholders wishing to provide comment and feedback on the study can do so by emailing oar@casa.gov.au no later than Monday April 18.
