Archerfield releases Preliminary Draft Master Plan
Archerfield Airport is releasing the latest incarnation of its 20-year Master Plan for public comment this month.
The Preliminary Draft Master Plan 2011-31 (PDMP) will be available from December 15 to March 17 2011, and Archerfield Airport Corporation (AAC) is inviting feedback from airport users, neighbouring businesses and residents, and other stakeholders.
Key elements of the Master Plan include:
- Realignment of the grass runways to improve their useability by light aircraft;
- Allocation of additional land west of the realigned runways for future aviation and non-aviation development;
- Allocation of additional land to the east of the realigned runways for long-term aviation use; and
- Plans for small freight and light passenger operations to cater for some domestic travel and to complement local business operations.
Archerfield Airport General Manager Corrie Metz says the Master Plan is aimed at ensuring that the airport continues to evolve into a modern, world-class facility, capable of catering for Regular Passenger Transport in the long term. He said the airport expects to be handling around 220,000 aircraft movements per year by 2025, an increase of three per cent per annum on current movements.
“In the past decade, Archerfield Airport Corporation has been strongly focused on
upgrading infrastructure and security to ensure the growth of aviation at the airport,”
Metz said. “This plan builds on an earlier one approved by the Federal Government in 2005, and will assist us to develop the airport in a carefully planned way that is good for both the aviation community and the local community.”
The PDMP will be available as a free download from the AAC website as of December 15, or it can be purchased from the AAC offices on the airport.
Comments on Archerfield’s Master Plan will be collated and considered before the Master Plan is finalised and presented for approval to Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese.
