Australia’s largest gathering of historic military aircraft in more than 80 years will take to the skies this month as Warbirds Over Scone returns to the NSW Upper Hunter.

The event, at Scone Airport from 28–29 March, will feature what organisers say is the largest formation of Supermarine Spitfires and North American P-51 Mustangs seen in Australia since World War II, with five Spitfires and seven Mustangs flying together.

Led by Paul Bennet Airshows in partnership with Pay’s Aviation and Hunter Warbirds, the program will include a mix of historic aircraft and high-energy aerobatics. Paul Bennet will perform in the Wolf Pitts Pro, capable of speeds up to 414 km/h and roll rates exceeding 360 degrees per second.

“We’re bringing together an extraordinary collection of historic aircraft and pairing it with a high-energy flying program designed to honour the past while thrilling modern audiences,” Bennet said.

Aircraft on display will include the F4U-1D Corsair, De Havilland Vampire, Sea Fury, Avenger, Strikemaster and Wirraway, spanning multiple eras of military aviation.

A STEM-focused schools program on 27 March will precede the public airshow, offering students access to pilots, engineers and aircraft, with a focus on aviation careers.

Visitors will also be able to explore aircraft on the ground, along with vintage vehicles, food vendors and family activities.

Warbirds Over Scone has grown into one of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest warbird events. Tickets are available online.
