The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) will investigate an incident when a suspected drone collided with a general aviation aircraft in flight.

The incident occured at Parafield, SA, on 11 July when a TB10 Tobago operated by Flight Training Adelaide was on approach to land.

"The pilot advised air traffic control that, during final approach to runway 03L at Parafield Airport at about 1830 Central Standard Time, the aircraft struck an object, which was potentially a remotely piloted aircraft (RPA)," the ATSB has stated.

"The aircraft sustained minor damage to the right wing. Initial search of the area under the flightpath did not locate the object.

"Initial activities will involve examining the aircraft and interviewing the pilot."
