Melbourne-based Ansett Aviation Training will award two Beechcraft King Air training scholarships at the 2026 Regional Aviation Association of Australia convention in Cairns this June.
Each scholarship, valued at $30,000, includes a B200 Super King Air type rating, ground school, simulator training and up to 12 days of accommodation.
Ansett Aviation Training general manager Logan Charters Leahy said the initiative is aimed at supporting pilots seeking to build careers in regional aviation.
“We’ve partnered with the RAAA to support the development of pilots in regional Australia for years now,” he said. “The scholarships are designed to assist professional pilots – either experienced or new entrants – to advance their careers through providing a Beechcraft B200 type rating.”
Applicants will need to demonstrate a commitment to regional aviation, strong decision-making skills, a positive safety attitude and clear career progression, supported by recommendations from employers or flight training organisations.
Leahy said the King Air B200 was selected for its versatility and widespread use across Australia, including in regional airline and air ambulance operations.
"The King Air is a very versatile aircraft that is widely used across Australia and not just in regional aviation, but also in air ambulance as a primary fleet type," he said. "From our experience, the King Air is the type that effectively unlocks most pilots' careers. It's the most versatile aircraft in Australia, and that's why we think it is the right one for these scholarships."
The scholarships will help develop regional aviation and the part it plays in connecting regional and remote communities.
"Regional aviation is the backbone of Australian aviation," said Leahy. "It plays such a critical role in connecting and supporting communities that don't necessarily have access to mainline services."
Ansett Aviation Training operates simulator facilities in Australia and internationally, delivering training across a range of aircraft from airliners to regional types including the King Air B200.
Applications close on 8 May, with recipients to be announced at the RAAA Convention gala dinner, to be held from 16–18 June at the Cairns Convention Centre. To apply, head to the Ansett Aviation Training website.
