Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority has appointed former United Kingdom financial ombudsman Jonathan Hanton as its new industry complaints commissioner.

He took up his new post, which reports directly to the CASA board, last week.

Mr Hanton has worked as an ombudsman at the United Kingdom’s Financial Ombudsman Service and in New Zealand as a senior investigator in the Banking Ombudsman’s office.

He is a qualified lawyer who has held senior and varied roles in managing, investigating and resolving complaints.

Mr Hanton has worked in a number of sectors and jurisdictions – including non-profit and financial services in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

CASA’s industry complaints commissioner can be used by people in the aviation community or the general public to lodge complaints about the regulator’s action or behaviour.

Complaints can be made about decisions and administrative actions or services provided by CASA staff, delegates or authorised persons which are considered to be wrong, unjust, unlawful, discriminatory or unfair.
