The last minute hitch, by Steve Hitchen

Steve Hitchen has been haunting the airports of Australia since 1985. He acquired his PPL through the Scout Association at Casey Field in Berwick, Victoria, and has spent the last 25 years indulging his aviation addiction throughout the eastern seaboard and the outback.

He is a former AOPA representative and a member of the TOP Fliers, an itinerant flying club based in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Steve is an air show regular and member of the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia, as well as a devout supporter of Funflight. He has been writing for Australian Flying since 2000.

Shout it from the rooftops

Sydney's Martin Place during Aeromil's Cessna in the City promotional display.

At least someone is having a red-hot go at promoting GA to the general masses.

Dear Julia

Minister Albanese at the recent opening of the new Australian Airline Pilot Academy at Wagga Wagga.

If Julia Gillard is elected to The Lodge, there is bound to be a cabinet reshuffle; party room votes are rarely free. So will Anthony Albanese stay as Minister in control of aviation?

The challenge of age

Using full-immersion sims for twin training

The Elite iGate S623 simulator.

A couple of years ago I investigated if a pilot could be taught to fly a twin-engined aircraft using only a full-immersion flight simulator.

Bring in the PPL instructor

This old chestnut has been bandied around for years, but it has gone a bit quiet of late, so I thought it might be time to bandy it around some more.

A bloke walks into a flying school…

How I wish this was the beginning of a joke; by the time I have finished telling you, you might think it is.
